Music for Viola, for Viola solo

Music for viola was composed for Krzysztof Komendarek-Tymendorf. The title reflects the significance of the viola's sonic possibilities in the piece. The viola's timbres have a major impact on the shape of the music. In Music for viola, I aim to blaze a trail for a new technique that enables the playing of three simultaneous, long-lasting notes. This opens the way to playing wide chords and creating a fully harmonic texture, which sounds specifically on the viola. This technique is also possible on other string instruments, but some of the chords used in this piece can only be obtained on the viola. Thus, the harmonic passage that opens and closes the composition is based on the specific technical properties of the viola.
